The birth of Spring Practice
Spring Practice was born in 2024, when Yen Chen and Shinzen Young traveled to China and co-led the first retreat in Diaoyuan—the hometown of the great poet Ouyang Xiu. Together, they guided participants in See Hear Feel techniques, Source Meditation, and expressive arts—including poetry, dance, and drumming. The retreat brought together students from six countries to celebrate Shinzen’s 80th birthday and the Qixi Festival—a joyful moment of reunion and love.
This journey is deeply meangful. Shinzen sees China as the birthplace of many practices that form the foundation of his system. for Yen, China is her homeland.
This transformative journey marked the birth of Spring Practice: a marriage between wisdom and joy, bridging East and West.
